THE LORAX

2,200 SF Urban Residence & ADU  •  Under Construction

Contractor: Long House Builders

On a surprisingly bucolic property on the San Antonio Riverwalk, multiple structures are grouped to form an indoor-outdoor, tri-generational home. The long, rectangular home is perched on a ledge overlooking the river. It creates a threshold between a lush, riparian landscape on one side, and a west-facing xeriscape courtyard on the other. Different volumes (Living, Sleeping, and Accessory Dwelling), are linked by covered porches that usher in summer breezes.

Deep pier foundations minimize impact to the existing tree roots and ensure stability in the moveable soils. Dark wood siding helps the home discretely blend into the forest. A cantilevered screened porch peeks out between the trees to capture a view of the downtown skyline in the distance and beckon friends arriving from the riverwalk at night.
