PINE HOUSE
1,800 SF Single-Family • 2019
Photography: Dror Baldinger, FAIA
Contractor: Long House Builders
The Pine House is a new home for a young family located within a historic district downtown. The home consists of two volumes containing the living and sleeping areas, which together frame a private backyard deck, patio and yard. The main living spaces open onto a shaded deck, while the second floor bedrooms enjoy tree-top views and privacy. A reverse board and batten siding offers a modern take on a historical detail, and is made of rough sawn local yellow pine. The reversed batten provides air movement behind the wood boards, helping to preserve the siding, cool the home, and create clean shadow lines.
"This is a modest project that doesn’t look like it was confined by budget. Instead, the designer embraced the budget and said it’s not stopping me from doing things, I just have to be smart about how I do them” - Julie Eizenberg FAIA, AIA Juror
