MONTANA HOUSE
The Montana house is located in a transitional neighborhood downtown. The quiet exterior of the house gives way to an interior courtyard.
At the heart of this house, the courtyard provides a private and lush environment for indoor-outdoor living and entertaining.

Tierra de Paz reflects the client’s desire for a peaceful home that is rooted to a sense of place. The site is located near the San Antonio UNESCO World Heritage Site Mission San Juan, circa 1731. An acequia, once used to irrigate the farmlands surrounding the Mission, borders the site to the north and east. Drawing inspiration from the austere Mission architecture and its agrarian outposts, the home offers a rigorous yet simple response to the site and program.
The home can be understood through the relationship of solid volumes (the private rooms), and void spaces (living areas). The private volumes are arranged to frame specific views and outdoor patios, each with a different function and orientation. These patios provide seamless extensions of the main living spaces.
A restrained palette of natural materials emphasize form and texture. Dappled daylight through the mesquite tree canopy and subtle details give nuance to the plain forms, and blur the line between indoors and outdoors.
