MONTANA HOUSE
The Montana house is located in a transitional neighborhood downtown. The quiet exterior of the house gives way to an interior courtyard.
At the heart of this house, the courtyard provides a private and lush environment for indoor-outdoor living and entertaining.

CASITA
1,100 SF Urban Accessory Dwelling • Under Construction
Architects: James Estes, FAIA & Cotton Estes, AIA
Contractor: Long House Builders
The Casita consists of two small backyard structures which frame a series of courtyards on a deep and narrow site. The structures consist of a painting studio and a living volume with two bedrooms and a bathroom. Both structures have full-width sliding doors that open toward onto private landscaped courtyards. A series of large barn doors make the courtyards divisible for privacy between the painting studio, casita and main house.
The end walls of the painting studio bookend the courtyards and measure 12' x 12'. These blank exterior walls are intended as outdoor canvases for landscape, art, and the play of tree shadows across the stucco surfaces. Parapet walls conceal long skylights, which wash the interiors with diffuse and balanced daylight.
