User Groups & Thermal Comfort Ranges

As a Nature Center in the center of Houston, we approached the buildings as a simple vehicle to connect visitors to nature. A long shed roof defines a winding pathway, which transects the three main ecosystems of the Arboretum. Notches in the roof, nooks along the boardwalk, and a thin pedestrian bridge over a deep ravine each respond to unique features of the site, providing moments of rest, reflection and interpretation. Thermal comfort analysis resulted in improved energy efficiency and year-round comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces.
